Berkeley Repertory's Thrust Stage

Man in the Case

The story is told of Byelikov, "the man in a case." Byelikov, the Greek teacher at a provincial school, was extraordinarily orderly both in his personal and professional lives. A strict disciplinarian, he never made exceptionsThe Man in the Case to the rules. He always did things the proper way, determined to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

Although he and his colleagues had nothing to speak about, he would regularly visit each one of them because it was the accepted thing to do. Every time something slightly irregular came up, Byelikov would cry, "Oh, how I hope it doesn't reach the ears of the authorities!" Naturally, the other teachers hated him.

At one point, Byelikov became enamored of Varinka, the sister of Kovalenko, a new teacher at the school. Everyone encouraged this relationship, hoping that marriage would moderate Byelikov. However, someone drew a humorous caricature of Byelikov and Varinka.
Then, Byelikov saw Varinka and her brother bicycling in the park. Outraged, Byelikov went to the brother to complain about this scandalous behavior, but Kovalenko pushed him down the steps. Byelikov than became depressed, took to his bed, and died, thereby truly becoming a man in a box (i.e. a coffin).

Home Styling

Have you caught yourself wondering what your  home should look like. Should I go through a bunch of Home Styling Magazines and Apartment Therapy Websites and pick out different styles. What is the Home Styling? What should my home look like? We should ask ourselves?

When I began to think about this notion of Home Styling, I started observing the objects around me and the stuff that I have bought over time. Our home is a reflection of ourselves. We instill our character in our home. It is has a personality, it kinda has your character, your taste.

So, if you know yourself fairly well, does this mean you are going to go about styling your home with your nature? Are you going to install the comforts and decor that you desire, that you so undoubtedly beg for? I don't know. I don't think so.

Your home is a reflection of you, but hopefully a better version of you, a balanced version of you. It accommodates the styles of your loved ones, your beliefs and your hobbies. I haven't really lived in humongous homes. I have lived in apartments and I believe there's so much more to an apartment than a 10,000 sq/ft house. You have to get creative, you begin watching HGTV. You observe various patterns and make compromises. Unfortunately, you have to leave as soon as it looks just right and cozy. That's the irony of life.

So lets start Styling up your Home with your taste and little bit of Twist.

Here's an example of Sheek Look: Are you this kind of person? Is this you aspire to be?
